Broad Bean Stir Fry with Baby Corn
.
▪️ Broad beans, either fresh or frozen
▪️ Baby Corn
▪️ Carrot, peeled, cut into chips
▪️ Ginger, cut into strips or diced
.
1) Heat oil in a wok, when hot put in ginger to quick stir until aromatic;
2) Add bread beans, baby corns and carrot, quick stir fry for a minute or 2;
3) Add a bit of water, and boil for 3 to 5 minutes;
4) Add salt and a bit of sugar to taste, keep stir slightly until water dries up.

Stir Fry Soybean Sprouts.

▪️ Soybean sprouts, trim ends
▪️ Coriander, cut into short sections
▪️ Ginger, chop into fine pieces
.
1) Blanch soybean sprouts in a pot of boiling water for half a minute, remove from pot and dry;
2) Heat oil in a wok, when hot put in ginger to quick stir until aromatic;
3) Add soybean sprouts and a quick stir, sprinkle a bit of water, keep stir;
4) Add salt to taste, keep stir until white water nearly dry up;

Wisdom can be found in many places. As a Christian

Wisdom can be found in many places. As a Christian, it may be found in biblical stories, through the parables of Jesus, or our pastors and elders. What if that particular wisdom was conditional? What if the only wisdom you could access was confined to a box with set parameters? Would anything outside of that predefined space not be considered wisdom? How then shall we view our non-Christian neighbors; brothers and sisters? Would they, by these standards, be less than us? What does Jesus’ teachings say about that?

There is much wisdom to glean outside of a bubble.

Throughout history, empathy has been weaponized and portrayed as a sin, something to be restrained, or something the devil can use against you when there is a particular religious interpretation or orthodoxy that is perceived at risk or being threatened. During the Crusades, Christians were discouraged for having empathy for Muslims and other non-Christians because that would be a form of weakness or compromise that endangered the Christian mission. During slavery in the United States, many Christians argued that empathy for enslaved people was incompatible with Christian teachings. During the 1930’s in Germany, Christians threatened imprisonment for those who showed empathy to Jewish people or others not in the Aryan “race.” During political colonial missions, empathy for indigenous people was discouraged because they were considered heathens that needed to be saved.

What is the philosophy of servant leadership? According to the Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership they define it as “a non-traditional leadership philosophy, embedded in a set of behaviors and practices that place the primary emphasis on the well-being of those being served.”

Ideally, this is the type of leadership, as Christians, we would like to see in this world. Realistically, this type of leadership may be more difficult to find than one could assume.

After a request from James and John about sitting at his right and left sides, Jesus answers the disciples with a profound statement:

Often times, pride for our country can be elevated

Often times, pride for our country can be elevated and that can be conflated with certain ideas and principles. When Anthony Mackie said that the character of Captain America represents integrity more so than the idea of America, he means Captain America exhibits the characteristics of what patriotism should look like; being strong, fearless, confident, true, honest, kind, good, having integrity, dignity, and heart (The American Dream).

We can become more generous table builders so that there is no need for higher walls; in fact, let’s just go ahead and break down walls and barriers whenever we can and use the raw materials to build a better table, a more just world, and a community of faith where all are welcome.

Bonhoeffer, in his book The Cost of Discipleship,

Bonhoeffer, in his book The Cost of Discipleship, talks about a concept called “cheap grace.” Cheap grace means the grace which amounts to the justification of sin without the justification of the repentant sinner, who departs from sin and from whom sin departs. Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, Communion without confession, absolution without personal confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the Cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate. It can be easier to ask for forgiveness than to actually change. The German state’s church was offering grace without absolution, given without taking account the wrongs and sweeping them under the rug. There was no humility, no accountability, no acknowledgement, and no honesty.

The answer to cheap grace is in Matthew 7:7-11, knock and you shall receive; the answer is the act of pursuing God. Bonhoeffer urges us to live in ‘Costly Grace.’ Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. True Christian faith knows nothing of power, or violence, or riches, or pride.

Speaking of characters in the film Captain America: Brave New World, Marvel Studios made a “brave” choice in an attempt to repurpose an old hero that has a troubling history.
.
The hero in question is Sabra, also known as Ruth Bat Seraph in the film. “Sabra” is a Hebrew word that refers to a Jewish person born in Israel. Sabra also happens to be the name of a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, which still exists today. In 1982, Sabra and Shitila, a neighboring camp, were the sites of a horrific massacre where Israeli-allied militiamen from the right-wing Lebanese Christian Kataeb Party and the South Lebanon Army tortured and murdered 3500 Palestinians and Lebanese civilians in an attack that lasted three days.

Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and Harvard Law (among others) have reported that the Israeli government and police force, the same agencies that Sabra fictionally work for, are realistically practicing apartheid to this day. Aside from the catastrophic bombing raids, not limited to just the last couple years, but there are plenty of stories of shooting civilians in the head with rubber bullets, Palestinian civil services organizations being labeled as “terrorist organizations”, and wrongful detaining of Palestinian children for an indefinite amount of time in a prison system that is well known to mistreat and abuse their prisoners.

Even though Marvel did attempt to reconstitute Sabra and distance her character from the past, this “new approach” is laughable that it would ease the generational pain. There is nothing wrong with wanting a Jewish hero, but there are plenty of other options to do so; 226 others in fact.

We are far from having a super soldier liken to that in the super hero films through characters such as Bucky Barns, Steve Rogers, and Isaiah Bradley. The US military does utilize tools that exhibit some aspects of a super soldier such as the use of exoskeletons, cybernetic implants, genetic engineering, brain-computer interfaces, psychostimulants/anxiolytics.

Will brought up a great point about how he doesn’t fear the technologies themselves, but those that wield the power over those technologies. How are they currently being used against us?

There is a concept called the imperial boomerang, or Foucault’s boomerang, which is the thesis that governments that develop repressive techniques to control colonial territories will eventually deploy those same techniques domestically against their own citizens.
.
With the rise of technologies and how they’re used throughout the world, it’s only a matter of time before it boomerangs. As for the current climate here in America, we can see how this is playing out through the construction of cop cities which utilize training from lsræli treatments against Palėstinians.

What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Is our understanding on this matter clear, or is there more to the picture that we aren’t privy to?

What i’ve found is that we can never fully exegete to the full extent of what exegesis means; we will always presuppose our own understandings, our own modern, present day culture and understanding onto scripture. We do our best; it is just one of those ways we show our imperfectness. The Bible is way more nuanced than we give it credit for and by holding it in high esteem as a black and white, binary word of God, we take on the role of telling God WHO God is through the cross-dead Christ. And idolatry never looks good on anyone.

The argument is that Jesus only fulfilled the ritual laws, so we’re only beholden to the moral laws. In Judaism, moral laws are viewed as universal laws applicable to all of humanity. The holiness codes were explicitly designed to separate Israel from its surrounding nations. This necessarily means these laws aren’t applicable to everyone, if the laws were not being followed by surrounding nations. This means they wouldn’t necessarily qualify as moral laws.
.
So, this separation of moral and ritual laws by Evangelicals is just a lazy way of picking and choosing verses that justify the rules they want to enforce, and those they wish to ignore. By saying there is only one way to look at it, is a very dangerous path to go down.
.
I know we talk about Jesus covering sin or not, but we got our words mixed up. We meant laws, not sins.
.

Accurately counting all undocumented immigrants is challenging as they are only able to count those who pay taxes, and it is mandatory to pay taxes regardless of immigration status. Independent organizations estimate there are upwards of 14 million undocumented migrants in the country. . Trump has made it clear that he wants to deport as many undocumented immigrants as possible, starting with those with criminal records; of the 11-14 million, only 425,431 immigrants are classified as criminals even if many of those offenses are minor infractions. . Immigrants are half as likely to commit violent crimes than native born citizens. They contribute more money in tax revenue than they consume in benefits. With deporting this many immigrants, there will be supply shocks cascading at every level whether you agree with it or not. . You wouldn’t be remiss to think that 1930’s Germany feels eerily similar to America today; widespread immigration raids, removing birthright citizenship, federal government employees having to prove their “M A G A revelation,” attempting to freeze all federal grants for social programs, and even 4 states considering bills to criminalize abortion, even miscarriages, as murder.
.
We have a responsibility to hold our friends, neighbors, and family accountable while encouraging critical thinking, questioning inwardly, and to engage with reason. That means asking difficult questions, holding ourselves accountable, and staying open to personal growth. It’s not easy, but it’s necessary; especially in a world where apathy can feel like a safer and more comfortable choice. Are we willing to be courageous and wrestle with the discomfort. Are we committed to being more present with those around us to build a world that reflects God’s goodness.

If it doesn’t liberate like Jesus, if it doesn’t set the oppressed free, if it doesn’t deliver the good news to the poor then it’s not the gospel of Jesus. There’s a lot of things trying to camouflage themselves as Christianity, but they don’t look and sound like Jesus.

The good news allows us to bring Heaven down on earth; by loving people, being good at what we do, building up people and communities. That is what bringing heaven to earth looks like.
